The Start of a Long Hiatus - Part 8

August 23, 2024

In June of 2018... we had to leave the garage shop behind and move back to my teeny tiny house… it was temporary… but it was where we needed to be. We made the decision for safety reasons and we knew it was the best thing we could have done. I felt safe and that is what was most important. What was left behind stayed there.

After going from having the garage shop to having no place to work except a small overhang out of a walkout basement, Silva & Ore all but died.

I tried to continue with little stuff. I started making macrame plant hangers with cedar cookies and live edge walnut. But with Nick changing jobs and being on second shift pretty much made me a single mom. It was hard to find the time let alone the space. The hangers I did make were fun and it helped me hang on but it was just by a thread. No pun intended. I feel like the writing was on the wall.

I tried to keep it going but as time went, it just became more of a pain than it was worth. We went from really developing the business on Facebook to pretty much a complete loss. It was like a switch was turned off. Like maybe it was just in the cards for us that this was it.

After trying to continue and then just feeling as though it was deteriorating right in front of me, I just let it all go.

But at the same time I was battling my recent diagnoses. And that in itself was a lot.
